Photos by Bow Time Girl/Lindsay Weisgerber Lindsay and her coworkers spent a relaxing weekend in Hochatown at the newly remodeled Just What I Needed Retreat Cabin. It sleeps 11 and sits right next to the Ouachita National Forest. The sleeping arrangements are 3 King Bedrooms and a bunk room with 5 bunk beds. It’s a wonderful place for a family or two with kids! It also has two bathrooms and one half bath. Not only does it backup to the forest but a babbling creek is on the property. The property is set back and secluded on two acres of land! There is a enough room to bring your boat or trailer. The furnishings and décor are recently updated and include several custom and unique pieces. The wide-open living/dining area includes a large smart TV and features a dramatic two-story, locally quarried, mountain stone fireplace. Enjoy the glow of a cozy seasonal natural wood fire with the whole family! The upstairs bunkroom also features a video arcade table with over 400 vintage games, and plenty of amusing family board games. The double bunkroom includes a smart TV and Xbox game player. The fully equipped kitchen has all you need to prepare gourmet meals for family and friends.

In late January of 2020 I had a big girl's trip to Broken Bow! We stayed at the luxurious Sound of Sunshine Cabin! This cabin had three floors and sleeps up to 20 people very comfortably. Let the girls weekend BEGIN!! We had the best time cooking in the large kitchen! Everyone pitched in and made a wonderful brunch to start off the day. The Sound of Sunshine Cabin also has a big, comfortable family room with a huge couch where everyone could hang out and watch tv, have coffee and of course talk! Yes! This cabin is Pet Friendly!! Of course you can check with the booking information for pet specific details. Outside is a hot tub, sitting area and an outdoor fireplace. There is an outdoor firepit and playground as well. There are so many lovely details. It is just a gorgeous place with nature all around. That's why I Iove Broken Bow!! January is one of my favorite months to come visit. After all of the holiday hustle and bustle, finally a time to come together and relax. The cabin has a larger master downstairs and three other bedrooms upstairs with even more beds on the third floor! The loft has two queen beds and all the other bedrooms have king size beds. There is even a room with 6 bunk beds! There was so much room. Nice bathrooms and a cool gameroom! We just had the best time!! We visited the Rolling Fork Takery, Beavers Bend Brewery, Abendigo's, and the Blue Rooster to name a few!! To book your stay please visit The Sound of Sunshine Cabin. You can also find them on Facebook HERE. Please feel free to share this post and comment below!
One of my favorite times of year to stay in Broken Bow is the month of January!!! January? Yes, January! Why? Because it is so darn cozy. Cabin, cozy, and coffee! After the busy month of December and hectic holidays it's the perfect escape to reset for the year. I even recommend booking your next New Year's Eve right here in the Bow! The Rustic Lodge is a cabin you will want to come back to. I already do! It sits perfectly nestled in the trees with a creek that runs all the way from the back of the property right to the front. You can hear it and see it from the living room while you sit inside. It is stunning!! Oh, and add the tall trees to go with it! We had four boys with us! They were loving the large cabin and running in and outside. Rain or shine. The downtsairs has a lovely master suite with a fireplace and double doors that lead outside. If you open the doors you can hear the creek! Upstairs has two more bedrooms with bathrooms and a bunkroom. We had a special weekend. We arrived in awful weather. Rain, tornado warnings and possible flooding. We all made it safely and the next day we had the first snow of the year. It was also the first snow for us in Broken Bow. It was just so perfect and gorgeous! Let's talk about the hot tub!! Probably the coolest feature of this cabin. It sits over the creek and is enclosed in a GRAIN BIN!!! What!? It was so cool! You could be in the hot tub at night and still see some stars (small opening you can open or close) and hear the creek!! While still keeping an eye on the back of the cabin. Seriously, you can rent this cabin just for the hot tub experience!! Back to January! I love it here SOOO much in January. I just love how cold and cozy it is. You can just stay in and make food, drink wine, and play games. You can be with family or friends and focus on the year ahead. Make travel plans, resolutions, or just be. I mean do you see that creek right there? Above? It runs all the way to the front of the property. It is just so gorgeous. I have to also mention the gourmet kitchen! It is huge. A perfect kitchen for a big gathering. To book this cabin and for more photos and information visit Beavers Bend Creative Escapes I mean snow!!!!!! SNOW! Did we mention that? Thank you to my sweet sister for being my Bow Time model! So if you have not experienced Broken Bow in January give it a try! It really is one of my favorite seasons. Last year I did a girls trip and it was so much fun. Again, to book this cabin and for more photos and information visit Beavers Bend Creative Escapes
The Way More Ramblin' cabin is perfect for a large family or friend gathering. We stayed here with my family in September 2019 to celebrate our son's fourth birthday! This cabin has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and sleeps 18. As soon as we arrived the fun started! Crafts, cooking, and games! We also took adavantage of the outdoor kitchen! The patio had an awesome sound system that you could control via an ipad. We could change the music stations. The boys loved it! I contacted Teresa Morris with The 3 Cupkateers to make our sons' birthday cake. She did a wonderful job. The best part is that she will deliver to your cabin. Ummmm...yes please! Besides the cabin being gorgeous, it had the BEST COUCH EVER!! Like, our toddlers slept for four hours on that couch!!! I am still dreaming about it. If you are interested just contact TinStar Furniture. I just love their decor and furnishings. They never disappoint. Okay, now back to our normal programming! More cookie making and fun exploring. The other nice feature about this cabin is that it's very close to the forest. I love that!! We loved taking walks there. For more detailed information or to book this cabin visit Way More Ramblin' Hochatown is just dreamy. I love it so much!! It's a very special place for our family. We first visited in 2013 and come back more and more each year. Thank you to my son and nephews for being the cutest cabin models ever! BROKEN BOW LAKE - THE MOST GORGEOUS LAKE IN OKLAHOMA
In June 2019 we spent a weekend at the adorable and cozy Holy Shiplap cabin! As soon as you enter you start to feel calm and relaxed. This cabin was great because it can be booked as either a couples cabin or you can bring two additional guests. I mean how cute is this cabin? #notleaving We loved how the cabin sat cozy on the cul-de-sac. It felt like you were nestled in the trees! The decor was farmhouse which is a personal favorite of mine. ![]() ; The boys were getting settled and exploring! This is the perfect cabin to book for a couples getaway or for a small family. People often ask me when a good time visit is. I say anytime is a great time! January, February, and parts of September seem like the slowest months. Off season. If you are intested in booking this adorable and cozy cabin click here. I love a modern farmhouse style bathroom. Just look at the tile and black and white colors! A large walk in shower and double sinks. The outisde of the cabin has a large deck complete with a hot tub, curtains for added privacy, and televison. I hope you consider booking this precious cabin. It has amazing owners and your family will love it as much as we did! I think the photo below says it all!
In 1958, two brothers - both Wichita University students- started a restaurant in a building on the corner of Bluff and Kellogg. They sold pizza, a dish that just beginning to gain popularity in America. They staffed their business with family, friends and fraternity brothers and called it Pizza Hut. I promised the boys I would take them to the Aviation Museum in Wichita. Sadly, they are closed on Mondays so I scrambled to find a solution! Thanks to Google I read about a Pizza Hut Museum. I was sure I misread it but as I kept reading I discovered Pizza Hut was founded in Wichita by two Wichita State University students. Who knew!? This road trip momma who loves to find cool places was doing the happy dance! I thought it was so neat! This building is the first ever original Pizza Hut restaurant. Now it's a museum!! It was a tiny little place! I think many of us remember or grew up with Pizza Hut! Once again Wichita or Kansas in general continues to surprise me with hidden gems! The next time you find yourself near WSU, take a visit. Wichita State is growing and building. It really is a gorgeous University. Did I mention how much I love Wichita? Or Kansas in general!? In February of 2018 we stayed at the enormous Wildhorse Lodge! Y'all, this cabin is so amazing. When you are sitting in the living room you feel like you are actually sitting in the middle of the forest. It is so cool! The Wildhorse Lodge is a REAL timber frame cabin and is over 5,000 square feet and three floors. You have plenty of room to visit with family and friends and several kids. If you hike up just a tad in the backyard you can see this gorgeous view of rolling hills. For more information and to book the Wildhorse Lodge visit Beavers Bend Creative Escape. You can also find them on Faebook and Instagram. During this visit I schedule a fly fishing lesson with the amazing Morgan. Morgan and her husband Trey Prater both teach fly fishing at the Beavers Bend Fly Shop. This has been on my wish list for a long time. We had to get up early and it was very cold but it was worth it! Fly fishing is not easy but we both caught a fish and had a great time. I only fell in once. Ummm...yes, it was cold! To schedule a fly fishing lesson contact the Beavers Bend Fly Shop located in the Beavers Bend State Park. Thank you Morgan for all of your kindness and patience. Sweet Morgan left her awesome selfie for us on her phone! :) WE DID IT!! After we could not wait to eat at the Rolling Fork Takery. One of our favorites in Hochatown. This is the view from inside the house from just one of several decks. I told you this cabin is HUGE! Look at the view? Literally in the middle of the forest. Makes my heart happy!
Until next time Hochatown.... We had the privilege to stay at the adorable Acadian Cottage! I mean how cute is this cabin? It sleeps up to 4 people. It has one bedroom and a pull out couch. It is French inspired and we had the best time! It sits up high on a hill and is the pefect place to soak in the surroundings and relax! You can explore more photos and book at Beavers Bend Luxury Cabin Rentals. You can also find them on Facebook and Instagram. We had so much fun this trip exploring new cabin developments and going back to Beavers Bend Mining. The boys love that! They have their new dinosaur exhibit so we had to try it out. Dinosaurs, new creeks we found, and also trying the new Lil' Darlin Popcorn Co. food truck located near Beavers Bend Mining. So good! I love the Ginger Ale and the boys loved their slushies. Hochatown never disappoints. We had such a wonderful weekend staying in a gorgeous and adorable cabin. Until next time Hochatown.....
We decided to head back down to Broken Bow for Labor Day weekend! We were so excited to stay at the Whitetail Ridge Cabin with Beavers Bend Experience! This cabin is so unique! It sits up high on the ridge and overlooks Beavers Bend State Park!! Wow, so neat! You can even hike from your cabin right down to the river to fish! I mean look at this VIEW from the DECK! Incredible! The kitchen even had windows with this view. It was so cozy and breathtaking! This is the view heading up the the Whitetail Ridge Cabin! Amazing and rare! Below is the view of the cabin from HWY 259A. Whitetail Ridge has two large master bedrooms downstairs with large bathrooms, guest bathroom and two sleeping areas upstairs with another large bathrooms and rock shower. It is very cozy! I love the couches and fireplace! We spent the day exploring Beavers Bend State Park and Kayaking! We found a new area they have cleared away and for visitors. It is gorgeous! This new area we found below was so awesome! This is one of my favorite areas withing Beavers Bend State Park! You can kayak, paddleboat, canoe, or swim! Before we left Broken Bow on Labor Day (leaving is the worst!) the boys wanted to play golf. I really enjoy this super cute and shady golf mini golf course. It is animated and really fun! This mini golf course is called Old West Town Mini Golf Until next time Broken Bow!!!! Please visit Beavers Bend Experience and check out the Whitetail Ridge cabin. It is cabin I would stay at again for sure!!! Clean, cozy, gorgeous views, and right near Beavers Bend State Park!
Until next time Hochatown... Summer is STILL here so let me share one of our Broken Bow summer trips! In June we took our yearly B.B. trip with our dear friends from Dallas, Texas. They have two boys the same age as our two older boys and the kids were already talking about returning for another fun weekend! Personally, I really love traveling in the month of July! June is so busy with end of school, graduations, weddings, and birthdays (at least in our family)! July is the middle of the summer and my favorite time to just relax. We left on July 4th for Broken Bow! We met our friends from Dallas which is only 2.5 hours for them. We booked our cabin with Blue Beavers at the Sweet Creeks cabin. We LOOOVED this cabin!!! It was on a cul-de-sac, set down off the road, and was very open in the family room area which was perfect for 5 wild boys! It had large windows, a pation with tables, hot tub, and two creeks in the back. So cozy!!!! For more photos and to book this wonderful cabin click here: www.bluebeavercabins.com/cabins/3-bedroom-cabins/sweet-creeks/ For the 4th we decided to do our own fireworks, grill out and let the boys run wild! For our second day we visited Beavers Bend Mining and the Petting Zoo. These are very fun and simple activities for families but the kids love it! Of course, the BEST activity in Broken Bow is boating! We love Beavers Bend Marina because you can easily rent a boat, jet ski, or even a house boat. The lake is gorgeous!!!!! You cannot build near the lake so when you are on your boat you just see gorgeous scenery and it is so much fun!!! We had this on our to do list! www.beaversbendmarina.com Friday we had a very special activity planned. We made a reservation at the Endangered Ark Foundation in Hugo, OK. An hour east of Broken Bow. This is a MUST do! You have to be on time so please give yourself plenty of wiggle room. It is the second largest home to Asian Elephants in America and they also take are of retired circus elephants. I suggest visiting in the cooler months. July was HOOOOT! You can find our more information here: www.endangeredarkfoundation.org After your visit a very popular place to eat is the Buffalo Grill!! Ummmm, we would travel back to Hugo just to eat there! Going to Hugo, OK to see the elephants is a must do!! Saturday we headed home already planning our next getaway. When you book your cabin in Broken Bow, it IS part of your experience. The cabins are so fun and gorgeous. Many have game-rooms, hot tubs, outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, etc. Everyone can relax and enjoy! We will be posting more in the future about the cabins we love!!
