In 1958, two brothers - both Wichita University students- started a restaurant in a building on the corner of Bluff and Kellogg. They sold pizza, a dish that just beginning to gain popularity in America. They staffed their business with family, friends and fraternity brothers and called it Pizza Hut. I promised the boys I would take them to the Aviation Museum in Wichita. Sadly, they are closed on Mondays so I scrambled to find a solution! Thanks to Google I read about a Pizza Hut Museum. I was sure I misread it but as I kept reading I discovered Pizza Hut was founded in Wichita by two Wichita State University students. Who knew!? This road trip momma who loves to find cool places was doing the happy dance! I thought it was so neat! This building is the first ever original Pizza Hut restaurant. Now it's a museum!! It was a tiny little place! I think many of us remember or grew up with Pizza Hut! Once again Wichita or Kansas in general continues to surprise me with hidden gems! The next time you find yourself near WSU, take a visit. Wichita State is growing and building. It really is a gorgeous University. Did I mention how much I love Wichita? Or Kansas in general!?
